Shakuntalam Telefilms’ upcoming show Rakshak for Life OK was to launch in January 2013. However, the project has been facing some delays due to its dark concept. Our readers would remember that Tellychakkar.com had written about the show having a central character of the Rakshak, played by Rajesh Shringarpure who comes as a saviour and fights crime with crime, and brutally murders people who are evil-minded and the ones who are a thorn to the society.
However, with the awakening created by the recent Delhi rape case, television is going through a sensitive phase wherein the I & B Ministry has become strict and has put up norms of ‘what is to be aired’ and ‘what is not to be aired’. In accordance with this, Rakshak which was to show brutal murders is caught in a mess due to its concept.
Our inside source claims that the show had been put on a hold ever since the rape case in Delhi happened. And now, the channel will most likely air the show as a mini-series comprising of not more than eight episodes. The channel will take a call later to get the show back with a Season 2 after two or three months. The launch of Rakshak will now probably take place post the launch of the other big fiction show Savitri (produced by Flying Turtle Films).
We tried contacting producer Shyamashis Bhattacharya, but he remained unavailable.
We also dropped a text message to Ajit Thakur, General Manager, Life OK on the issues pertaining to the launch of Rakshak, but did not get a revert from him till the time we filed the story.
For the uninitiated, Rakshak was earlier to launch as a bi-weekly and was targeted to strengthen the weekend programming line-up of Life OK.
The show has Rajesh Shringarpure, Purva Parag, Karan Rajpal in the lead roles.
