Bin Phere Hum Tere – Why did the heroes of Madhubala and Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon decided to do ‘Phere’ in similar style and time.

Original Post On http://www.idubba.com  on August  17, 2012
Our Television has shown us almost all kind of weddings, Love and Arrange being just the starting point. Be it Contract MarriageSecond Marriage (Third, fourth comes along :)), Vengeance MarriageBlackmail Marriage etc. The list goes on and on as the Idea Bulbs of creative teams switch on and off.
he term ‘Trending’ is not obtuse to our Telly World, thus a series of events that occur in Serial X will be seen in a tweaked version in Serial Y and not just Y but in A, B, C as well. Currently our Trend Spotting needle has pointed towards two serials – Madhubala and Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon both prime time and the main protagonists of both just could not stop fighting.
Right now both of these serials had one more thing in common ‘The Style of The Pheras’. The Style? Yes my lovely audience ‘The Style’. The angry Hero breaks a wooden chair, lights the fire and takes his bride for the ride :) .
First up the angry man of MadhubalaRK aka Vivian Dsena. Fumed by his injured Pride and Prejudice the all so powerful and influential Rishab Kundra (RK) compels his arch enemy Madhubala to marry him. The poor now not so angry bird has no alternative but to agree to save her father from the death bed. The wedding took place on a short notice, but there was no lack in its grandeur and the guest list. All those who witnessed the Four slaps to RK by Madhubala also saw the Four Pheras of the couple ;) .
The thing that intrigued me the most was the ‘Agni Kund‘ (the Fire), while the bride goes in for hair, makeup and dress up the groom RK himself finds suitable utensils and the raw materials for fire. He breaks a chair and uses the wooden blocks to light the fire that will bear witness to the union of a Drunk Groom with a bottle and gloomy sullen Bride. Four Pheras, a thrown Mangalsutra around the neck and no Sindoor, later RK and Madhubala are announced partially wedded. Here we have another kind of marriage ‘Half way there’, well that was RK’s idea of vengeance with Madhubala to leave her on a bridge of dilemma between Marriage or No Marriage.
The Term ‘Partially Wed’ rings a ring … a trend-ring that is part of Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon for a while now. The wedding of the lead pair Arnav and Khushi has been a mix of Contract and partial marriage. Near the end of their contract of Six months, KhushiKumari Gupta Singh Raizada realizes that they have not taken Pheras and that is the end of the world for her.
Arnav aka Barun Sobti is really not bothered about all of this and just wants to enjoy an intimate moment with his wife. The partially wed comment from Khushi brings Arnav’s temper to the boiling point and he takes Khushi all the way to the terrace which is somehow decorated as a wedding venue. There he breaks a chair and lights a fire. Wow if lighting a fire to a stack of broken wood is so easy I could have a bonfire in my backyard every day for about six days; all I need is to break my dining table chairs (wait even my table is of wood :) ).
Let us point out the differences between the two broken chair fire weddings:
  • ExpressionsRK drunk and smirking all the while Madhubala muted by the shock,Arnav angry and in a hurry to mark this of his list of to-do’s Kushi speaking nonstop
  • Venue: A Lavish set with one less chair for RK and MadhubalaArnav and Khushihad an overly lighted terrace under a starry sky with one less chair obviously
  • AudienceRK and Madhubala have ample of shocked people around including a Pandit. Arnav and Khushi are by themselves. Khushi demanding a Pandit until Dadi ji comes and disturbs them
  • Bride and Groom: I know they are obviously different but here we are talking about their feelings for each other RK and Madhubala hate each other like cat and dog.Arnav and Khushi fights like cat and dog on a regular basis but at last Arnav confessed his love for Khushi in this very episode.
The Similarities:
  • IncompleteRk and Madhubala took Four Phera’s and kept it at that, while Arnavand Khushi continues their partial wedding for several more episodes.
  • Groom: the chairs have lost their life due to the uncontrolled anger fit by their respective owners.
  • BrideRK and Arnav made sure their Brides were well dressed for the occasions :) .
The differences and similarities really do not make a difference in the similar situation of ‘Pheras’ in the two serials. The interesting fact being that both the unconventional partial weddings took place on the same day. We really can’t put a finger to who cheated or shall we say got Inspired by whom but what we can surely say that “Partialmarriage with broken chair” is an emerging trend on the horizon of the Scripts of our television serials :) .
For more trends spotting of TV shows and their Scripts keep trending your love for us, and we will keep on observing and writing.
